MEASURING YOUR FIREPLACE FOR A CUSTOM
PREMIER MANTLE

To insure
the proper fit of your custom Premier Mantle use the
following guidelines to measure your mantle.
DETERMINING
THE MANTLE OPENING HEIGHT "B"
The
opening height of the mantle of "B" dimension is
determined by measuring the height of the fireplace
facing material and subtracting 1/2" inch from the
height to allow the mantle to overlap the facing
material. SEE FIG.1
DETERMINING THE MANTLE OPENING WIDTH "C"
To
determine the opening width of the mantle of "C",
measure the width of the facing materials and subtract
one inch. This allows the mantle to overlap the facing
material 1/2" on each side. You can overlap the facing
material up to one inch less than the width of the
mantle leg if needed.
SEE
FIG.1
DETERMINING THE RETURN DEPTH "G"
All fireplaces have a front or face made of
non-combustible material such as brick, tile, marble or
slate. This facing material brick, tile, marble or
slate) may be installed flush with the wall of the
fireplace or it may protrude in front of the fireplace
wall. The distance the facing material sticks out in
front of the wall is used to calculate the mantle return
depth or "G" measurement.
SEE
FIG.1
The return dimension or "G" you need to specify is
calculated by adding 1/4" inch to the thickness of the
facing material protrusion. Therefore, if you are
installing the mantle over 3/4" inch thick marble you
should specify a return depth G of 3/4" inch plus 1/4"
inch or G = 1 inch.
SEE
FIG.1
READY TO ORDER?
Once you determine your opening Height "B", Opening
Width "C" and Return Depth you can determine all the
dimensions of your mantle using the Mantle Specification
Table. You should always check to make sure that the
mantle Shelf Length "D" and the mantle Body Width "E"
will fit your situation. The shelf length can be a
limiting factor when installing the mantle between two
windows or a window and a door. Make sure you have the
space needed for the size mantle you are ordering. See
your Premier Mantle Dealer for details.
SEE
FIG.1
CALCULATING
CUSTOM MANTLE DIMENSION
When you
customize your mantle opening, you also change the
overall Shelf Length "D", Body Width "E", and Overall
Height "A". To determine your custom sizes, use the
following table and formulas. SEE FIG. 2.
Measure your B (Facing Height) and C (Facing Width) from
Step 1 and 2 Example B = 39, C,51.

Overall Shelf Length:
D = 2Y + C
Example:
D = 2(9) + 51
D
= 69 |
Body Width:
E = 2X + C
Example: E = 2(6) + 51
E
= 63 |
Overall Mantle Height:
A = B + Z
Example : A = 39 + 13
A
= 52 |
